[नारद] अहॊ बत महत पापं सावित्र्या नृपते कृतम अजानन्त्या यद अनया गुणवान सत्यवान वृतः ॥ ३-२७८-११ ॥
'Upon hearing these words of hers, Narada exclaimed, "Alas, O king! Savitri has committed a grave mistake. Unaware of his fate, she has chosen Satyavan — a youth endowed with every noble quality — as her husband!"' ॥ 3-278-11 ॥

सत्यं वदत्य अस्य पिता सत्यं माता परभाषते ततॊ ऽसय बराह्मणाश चक्रुर नामैतत सत्यवान इति ॥ ३-२७८-१२ ॥
'Truth dwells on his father’s lips, and his mother too speaks with unwavering truth. Therefore, the Brahmanas named the boy Satyavān, the embodiment of truth.' ॥ 3-278-12 ॥

बालस्यावाः परियाश चास्य करॊत्य अश्वांश च मृन मयान चित्रे ऽपि च लिखत्य अश्वांश चित्राश्व इति चॊच्यते ॥ ३-२७८-१३ ॥
'As a child, he loved horses dearly, molding them from clay and sketching their forms with care. And thus, for his fondness and skill, he came to be known as Chitraswa — 'he who draws horses.'' ॥ 3-278-13 ॥

[राजा] अपीदानीं स तेजस्वी बुद्धिमान वा नृपात्मजः कषमावान अपि वा शूरः सत्यवान पितृनन्दनः ॥ ३-२७८-१४ ॥
'The king then asked, "And is Prince Satyavān — the joy of his father — truly endowed with energy, intelligence, patience, and courage?"' ॥ 3-278-14 ॥

[नारद] विवस्वान इव तेजस्वी बृहस्पतिसमॊ मतौ महेन्द्र इव शूरश च वसुधेव कषमान्वितः ॥ ३-२७८-१५ ॥
'Narada replied, 'Satyavān rivals the sun in energy, matches Bṛhaspati in wisdom, is as courageous as Indra, and as steadfast in forbearance as the Earth herself.'' ॥ 3-278-15 ॥
