सपुत्रं निहतं दृष्ट्वा तरासात संभ्रान्तलॊचनः रावणः शॊकमॊहार्तॊ वैदेहीं हन्तुम उद्यतः ॥ ३-२७३-२६ ॥
'Upon hearing of his son’s death, Ravana was overwhelmed with sorrow, And in the grip of unbearable grief and anguish, The king of the Rakshasas was suddenly seized with the desire to slay the princess of Mithila.' ॥ 3-273-26 ॥
english translation
अशॊकवनिकास्थां तां रामदर्शनलालसाम खड्गम आदाय दुष्टात्मा जवेनाभिपपात ह ॥ ३-२७३-२७ ॥
'Grasping his sword, the wicked Rakshasa rushed swiftly Toward the lady in the Ashoka grove, yearning to behold her lord.' ॥ 3-273-27 ॥
english translation
तं दृष्ट्वा तस्य दुर्बुद्धेर अविन्ध्यः पापनिश्चयम शमयाम आस संक्रुद्धं शरूयतां येन हेतुना ॥ ३-२७३-२८ ॥
'Then Avindhya, perceiving the sinful intent of that wicked wretch, sought to pacify his wrath. Listen, O Yudhishthira, to the words of reason he spoke!' ॥ 3-273-28 ॥

महाराज्ये सथितॊ दीप्ते न सत्रियं हन्तुम अर्हसि हतैवैषा यदा सत्री च बन्धनस्था च ते गृहे ॥ ३-२७३-२९ ॥
'That wise Rakshasa said, "Seated as you are upon the blazing throne of an empire, It does not befit you to slay a woman! Moreover, this woman is as good as slain, For she already lies captive under your power!"' ॥ 3-273-29 ॥

न चैषा देहभेदेन हता सयाद इति मे मतिः जहि भर्तारम एवास्या हते तस्मिन हता भवेत ॥ ३-२७३-३० ॥
'I do not believe that merely destroying her body would mean her end. Slay her husband instead! With his death, she too shall be as good as slain.' ॥ 3-273-30 ॥
