सा तं परुषम आरब्धा वक्तुं साध्वी पतिव्रता नैष कालॊ भवेन मूढ यं तवं परार्थयसे हृदा ॥ ३-२६२-२६ ॥
'With her heart set solely on her husband, she rebuked Lakṣmaṇa harshly, saying: "The wicked desire you harbor in your heart shall never be fulfilled, O fool!' ॥ 3-262-26 ॥

अप्य अहं शस्त्रम आदाय हन्याम आत्मानम आत्मना पतेयं गिरिशृङ्गाद वा विशेयं वा हुताशनम ॥ ३-२६२-२७ ॥
'I would sooner end my life with a weapon, cast myself from a mountain peak, or enter a blazing fire than live with a wretch like you.' ॥ 3-262-27 ॥
english translation
रामं भर्तारम उत्सृज्य न तव अहं तवां कथं चन निहीनम उपतिष्ठेयं शार्दूली करॊष्टुकं यथा ॥ ३-२६२-२८ ॥
'Forsaking my husband Rāma, I shall never, under any circumstance, take refuge in you! Just as a tigress would never seek the protection of a jackal, so too would I never turn to you!' ॥ 3-262-28 ॥

एतादृशं वचॊ शरुत्वा लक्ष्मणः परिय राघवः पिधाय कर्णौ सद्वृत्तः परस्थितॊ येन रागवः स रामस्य पदं गृह्य परससार धनुर्धरः ॥ ३-२६२-२९ ॥
'When the noble-hearted Lakshmana, deeply devoted to his brother, heard these words, he covered his ears and, with unwavering resolve, set out along the path that Rāma had taken. And Lakshmana departed without even glancing at that lady, whose lips were soft and red like the Bimba fruit.' ॥ 3-262-29 ॥

एतस्मिन्न अन्तरे रक्षॊ रावणः परत्यदृश्यत अभव्यॊ भव्यरूपेण भस्मच्छन्न इवानलः यति वेषप्रतिच्छन्नॊ जिहीर्षुस ताम अनिन्दिताम ॥ ३-२६२-३० ॥
'Meanwhile, the Rakshasa Ravana, though vile at heart, appeared in a noble guise—like fire concealed beneath ashes. Disguised as a hermit, he approached the blameless Sita, intent on carrying her away by force.' ॥ 3-262-30 ॥
