निशाचरं विदित्वा तं राघवः परतिभानवान अमॊघं शरम आदाय जघान मृगरूपिणम ।। ३-२६२-२१ ।।

'Perceiving the creature to be a night-stalking Rākṣasa, the keen-witted Rāghava seized an unfailing arrow and struck down the demon in his deer form.' ।। 3-262-21 ।।

english translation

nizAcaraM viditvA taM rAghavaH paratibhAnavAna amòghaM zarama AdAya jaghAna mRgarUpiNama || 3-262-21 ||

स रामबाणाभिहतः कृत्वा राम सवरं तदा हा सीते लक्ष्मणेत्य एवं चुक्रॊशार्तस्वरेण ह ।। ३-२६२-२२ ।।

'Struck by Rāma's arrow, the Rākṣasa, imitating Rāma’s voice, let out a desperate cry, calling upon Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa for help.' ।। 3-262-22 ।।

sa rAmabANAbhihataH kRtvA rAma savaraM tadA hA sIte lakSmaNetya evaM cukròzArtasvareNa ha || 3-262-22 ||

शुश्राव तस्य वैदेही ततस तां करुणां गिरम सा पराद्रवद यतः शब्दस ताम उवाचाथ लक्ष्मणः ।। ३-२६२-२३ ।।

'Hearing that distressing call, the princess of Videha, overcome with fear, implored Lakṣmaṇa to rush toward the direction of the cry. Then Lakṣmaṇa stopped her and spoke to her.' ।। 3-262-23 ।।

zuzrAva tasya vaidehI tatasa tAM karuNAM girama sA parAdravada yataH zabdasa tAma uvAcAtha lakSmaNaH || 3-262-23 ||

अलं ते शङ्कया भीरु कॊ रामं विषहिष्यति मुहूर्ताद दरक्ष्यसे रामम आगतं तं शुचिस्मिते ।। ३-२६२-२४ ।।

'Then Lakṣmaṇa said to her, “O timid lady, you have no cause for fear! Who in this world has the power to harm Rāma? O you of sweet smiles, in but a moment, you shall behold your husband, Rāma!”' ।। 3-262-24 ।।

alaM te zaGkayA bhIru kò rAmaM viSahiSyati muhUrtAda darakSyase rAmama AgataM taM zucismite || 3-262-24 ||

इत्य उक्त्वा सा पररुदती पर्यशङ्कत देवरम हता वै सत्रीस्वभावेन शुद्धचारित्रभूषणम ।। ३-२६२-२५ ।।

'Thus addressed, the chaste Sītā, overcome by the natural timidity of women, grew suspicious even of the virtuous Lakṣmaṇa and began to weep bitterly.' ।। 3-262-25 ।।
