सत्यप्रतिज्ञ यन मे तवं कामम एकं निसृष्टवान उपाकुरुष्व तद राजंस तस्मान मुच्यस्व संकटात ॥ ३-२६१-२१ ॥
'O king, you are always true to your word. You had promised to grant me a boon of my choosing. Fulfill that promise now, and save yourself from the sin of an unfulfilled vow!' ॥ 3-261-21 ॥
english translation
[राजा] वरं ददानि ते हन्त तद्गृहाण यद इच्छसि अवध्यॊ वध्यतां कॊ ऽदय वध्यः कॊ ऽदय विमुच्यताम ॥ ३-२६१-२२ ॥
'The king replied, 'I will grant you a boon. Ask for whatever you wish! Which undeserving man shall be slain today, and which deserving one shall be set free?'' ॥ 3-261-22 ॥
english translation
धनं ददानि कस्याद्य हरियतां कस्य वा पुनः बराह्मण सवाद इहान्यत्र यत किं चिद वित्तम अस्ति मे ॥ ३-२६१-२३ ॥
'Whom shall I bestow wealth upon today, or whose wealth shall be confiscated? All wealth in this world, except that which belongs to Brahmanas, is mine!' ॥ 3-261-23 ॥
english translation
[मार्क] सा तद वचनम आज्ञाय परिगृह्य नराधिपम आत्मनॊ बलम आज्ञाय तत एनम उवाच ह ॥ ३-२६१-२४ ॥
'Hearing these words from the king, and binding him to his vow, while also aware of her influence over him, she spoke to him as follows.' ॥ 3-261-24 ॥
english translation
आभिषेचनिकं यत ते रामार्थम उपकल्पितम भरतस तद अवाप्नॊतु वनं गच्छतु राघवः ॥ ३-२६१-२५ ॥
'I wish that Bharata receive the investiture you had intended for Rama, and let Rama go into exile, living in the Dandaka forests for fourteen years as an ascetic with matted locks on head and robed in rags and deer-skins!' ॥ 3-261-25 ॥
