तं धर्मराजॊ विमना इवाब्रवीत; सर्वे हरिया सन्ति तपस्विनॊ ऽमी भवान इदं किं समयतीव हृष्टस; तपस्विनां पश्यतां माम उदीक्ष्य ॥ ३-२६-६ ॥
'Noting Yudhishthira’s apparent concern, the sage, filled with a sense of joy, asked, 'Why do all these ascetics appear sorrowful at my presence, while you alone seem to smile with such pleasure in their company?'' ॥ 3-26-6 ॥
english translation
[मार] न तात हृष्यामि न च समयामि; परहर्षजॊ मां भजते न दर्पः तवापदं तव अद्य समीक्ष्य रामं; सत्यव्रतं दाशरथिं समरामि ॥ ३-२६-७ ॥
'Markandeya replied, "O child, I too am not smiling out of joy or pride. My heart is not lifted by elation. Seeing your current misfortune, I am reminded of Rama, the son of Dasharatha, who was devoted to truth."' ॥ 3-26-7 ॥

स चापि राजा सह लक्ष्मणेन; वने निवासं पितुर एव शासनात धन्वी चरन पार्थ पुरा मयैव; दृष्टॊ गिरेर ऋष्यमूकस्य सानौ ॥ ३-२६-८ ॥
'Even Rama, accompanied by Lakshmana, lived in the forest under his father’s command. O son of Pritha, I saw him long ago, roaming with his bow on the heights of the Rishyamuka hills!' ॥ 3-26-8 ॥

सहस्रनेत्र परतिमॊ महात्मा; मयस्य जेत नमुचेश च हन्ता पितुर निदेशाद अनघः सवधर्मं; वनेवासं दाशरथिश चकार ॥ ३-२६-९ ॥
'The illustrious Rama, akin to Indra, the lord of Yama, and the slayer of Namuchi, was sinless and revered. Yet, despite his divine prowess and invincibility in battle, he lived in the forest, accepting it as his duty, and renounced all pleasures at his father’s command.' ॥ 3-26-9 ॥

स चापि शक्रस्य समप्रभावॊ; महानुभावः समरेष्व अजेयः विहाय भॊगान अचरद वनेषु; नेशे बलस्येति चरेद अधर्मम ॥ ३-२६-१० ॥
'And he, equal in power to Indra, Of great prowess, invincible in battles, Abandoning pleasures, wandered in the forests, Thinking, 'I am not the master of strength,' lest he might act unrighteously.' ॥ 3-26-10 ॥
