न हि पापं कृतं किं चित कर्म वा निन्दितं कव चित दरौपद्या बराह्मणेष्व एव धर्मः सुचरितॊ महान ॥ ३-२५७-६ ॥
'The daughter of Drupada hath never committed a sinful act nor done anything unworthy of praise. On the contrary, she hath diligently upheld the highest virtues, especially in her reverence for Brahmanas.' ॥ 3-257-6 ॥
english translation
तां जहार बलाद राजा मूढ बुद्धिर जयद्रथः तस्याः संहरणात पराप्तः शिरसः केशवापनम पराजयं च संग्रामे ससहायः समाप्तवान ॥ ३-२५७-७ ॥
'And yet, that foolish king, Jayadratha, dared to seize her by force. As a result of this wicked deed, the wretch had his head shaved in disgrace and, along with all his allies, suffered a crushing defeat in battle.' ॥ 3-257-7 ॥
english translation
परत्याहृता तथास्माभिर हत्वा तत सैन्धवं बलम तद दारहरणं पराप्तम अस्माभिर अवितर्कितम ॥ ३-२५७-८ ॥
'Indeed, we have rescued her after vanquishing the forces of Sindhu. Yet, the dishonor of her abduction during our moment of vigilance lost has surely tainted us.' ॥ 3-257-8 ॥
english translation
दुःखश चायं वनेवासॊ मृगयायां च जीविका हिंसा च मृगजातीनां वनौकॊभिर वनौकसाम जञातिभिर विप्रवासश च मिथ्या वयवसितैर अयम ॥ ३-२५७-९ ॥
'This life in the wilderness is fraught with hardships. We sustain ourselves by the hunt, and though we share this forest with its creatures, we are compelled to slay them for our survival.' ॥ 3-257-9 ॥

अस्ति नूनं मया कश चिद अल्पभाग्यतरॊ नरः भवता दृष्टपूर्वॊ वा शरुतपूर्वॊ ऽपि वा भवेत ॥ ३-२५७-१० ॥
'This exile that we endure is the result of the deceit of our own kinsmen! Can there be anyone more unfortunate than I? Have you ever seen or heard of such a one before?' ॥ 3-257-10 ॥
