गन्धर्वभूता पृथिवी कषणेन समपद्यत आपतद्भिर महावेगैश चित्रसेनस्य सैनिकैः ॥ ३-२३०-१६ ॥
'As the swarms of Citrasena's warriors rushed impetuously to the field, the earth itself was soon covered by the host of Gandharvas.' ॥ 3-230-16 ॥

अथ दुर्यॊधनॊ राजा शकुनिश चापि सौबलः दुःशासनॊ विकर्णश च ये चान्ये धृतराष्ट्रजाः नयहनंस तत तदा सैन्यं रथैर गरुड निस्वनैः ॥ ३-२३०-१७ ॥
'Then King Duryodhana, along with Shakuni, the son of Suvala, Dushasana, Vikarna, and the other sons of Dhritarashtra, mounted their chariots, whose wheel clatter resembled the roars of Garuda. Following Karna's lead, they returned to the charge and began to slaughter the Gandharva host.' ॥ 3-230-17 ॥

भूयॊ च यॊधयाम आसुः कृत्वा कर्णम अथाग्रतः महता रथघॊषेण हयचारेण चाप्य उत वैकर्तनं परीप्सन्तॊ गन्धर्वान समवारयन ॥ ३-२३०-१८ ॥
'And again, placing Karna at the forefront, they quickly engaged in battle, with the great sound of chariots and also with cavalry. Desiring to protect the son of Vikartana (Karna), they held back the Gandharvas.' ॥ 3-230-18 ॥

ततः संन्यपतन सर्वे गन्धर्वाः कौरवैः सह तदा सुतुमुलं युद्धम अभवल लॊमहर्षणम ॥ ३-२३०-१९ ॥
'The entire Gandharva host then engaged in a fierce battle with the Kauravas. The clash between the two forces was intense and so terrifying that it could make one’s hair stand on end.' ॥ 3-230-19 ॥

ततस ते मृदवॊ ऽभूवन गन्धर्वाः शरपीडिताः उच्चुक्रुशुश च कौरव्या गन्धर्वान परेक्ष्य पीडितान ॥ ३-२३०-२० ॥
'At last, the Gandharvas, afflicted by the arrows of the Kuru army, appeared exhausted. Seeing them in such a state, the Kauravas raised a loud triumphant cry.' ॥ 3-230-20 ॥
