शरेष्ठं तद एव भूतानां बरह्म जयॊतिर उपास्महे सजन्तुः सर्वभूतात्मा पुरुषः स सनातनः मनॊ बुद्धिर अहंकारॊ भूतानां विषयश च सः ॥ ३-२०३-१६ ॥
'It is the highest of a creature's possessions, the essence of the Supreme Spirit, and we venerate it. It is the animating principle of all beings, the eternal Purusha (spirit). It is vast, encompassing both intelligence and ego, and serves as the subjective seat for the various properties of the elements.' ॥ 3-203-16 ॥
english translation
zareSThaM tada eva bhUtAnAM barahma jayòtira upAsmahe sajantuH sarvabhUtAtmA puruSaH sa sanAtanaH manò buddhira ahaMkArò bhUtAnAM viSayaza ca saH ॥ 3-203-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं तव इह स सर्वत्र पराणेन परिपाल्यते पृष्ठतस तु समानेन सवां सवां गतिम उपाश्रितः ॥ ३-२०३-१७ ॥
'Thus, in this way, everything here is maintained by the life-force (prana), while from behind, each follows its own course equally.' ॥ 3-203-17 ॥
english translation
evaM tava iha sa sarvatra parANena paripAlyate pRSThatasa tu samAnena savAM savAM gatima upAzritaH ॥ 3-203-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबस्ति मूले गुदे चैव पावकः समुपाश्रितः वहन मूत्रं पुरीषं चाप्य अपानः परिवर्तते ॥ ३-२०३-१८ ॥
'The Apāna air, transforming itself and supported by the upper part of the stomach, carries the body’s waste matter, such as urine, to the kidneys and intestines.' ॥ 3-203-18 ॥
english translation
basti mUle gude caiva pAvakaH samupAzritaH vahana mUtraM purISaM cApya apAnaH parivartate ॥ 3-203-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरयत्ने कर्मणि बले य एकस तरिषु वर्तते उदान इति तं पराहुर अध्यात्मविदुषॊ जनाः ॥ ३-२०३-१९ ॥
'That same air is present in the three elements of effort, exertion, and power. In this state, it is called the Udāna air by those learned in physical science.' ॥ 3-203-19 ॥

parayatne karmaNi bale ya ekasa tariSu vartate udAna iti taM parAhura adhyAtmaviduSò janAH ॥ 3-203-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंधौ संधौ संनिविष्टः सर्वेष्व अपि तथानिलः शरीरेषु मनुष्याणां वयान इत्य उपदिष्यते ॥ ३-२०३-२० ॥
'When it manifests itself by its presence at all the junctional points of the human system, it is known as Vyana.' ॥ 3-203-20 ॥

saMdhau saMdhau saMniviSTaH sarveSva api tathAnilaH zarIreSu manuSyANAM vayAna itya upadiSyate ॥ 3-203-20 ॥
