[वा] एवम उक्तस तु कौन्तेय सूतपुत्रस तदा मृधे परद्युम्नम अब्रवीच छलक्ष्णं मधुरं वाक्यम अञ्जसा ॥ ३-२०-१ ॥
'Vasudeva continued: Thus addressed, the son of the charioteer hastily replied to Pradyumna, the foremost of the strong, with these gentle and reassuring words:' ॥ 3-20-1 ॥

न मे भयं रौक्मिणेय संग्रामे यच्छतॊ हयान युद्धज्ञश चास्मि वृष्णीनां नात्र किं चिद अतॊ ऽनयथा ॥ ३-२०-२ ॥
'O son of Rukmini, I have no fear in guiding the horses on the battlefield, and I am well-versed in the Vrishni customs of war.' ॥ 3-20-2 ॥

आयुष्मन्न उपदेशस तु सारथ्ये वर्ततां समृतः सर्वार्थेषु रथी रक्ष्यस तवं चापि भृशपीडितः ॥ ३-२०-३ ॥
'This is absolutely true! However, O long-lived one, it is taught that the charioteer must protect the warrior on the chariot at all costs. You were severely afflicted and wounded by Salwa's arrows.' ॥ 3-20-3 ॥

तवं हि शाल्व परयुक्तेन पत्रिणाभिहतॊ भृशम कश्मलाभिहतॊ वीर ततॊ ऽहम अपयातवान ॥ ३-२०-४ ॥
'You were also deprived of your senses, O hero, which is why I had to retire from the field.' ॥ 3-20-4 ॥

स तवं सात्वत मुख्याद्य लब्धसंज्ञॊ यदृच्छया पश्य मे हयसाम्याने शिक्षां केशवनन्दन ॥ ३-२०-५ ॥
'But now, O chief of the Satwatas, since you have regained your senses, witness my skill in guiding the horses.' ॥ 3-20-5 ॥
