[वै] युधिष्ठिरॊ धर्मराजः पप्रच्छ भरतर्षभ मार्कण्डेयं तपॊवृद्धं दीर्यायुर अम अकल्मषम ॥ ३-१९२-१ ॥
'॥ Vaiśampāyana said:॥ Yudhishthira, the king of dharma, O best of the Bharatas, asked Markandeya, who was mature in his austerities, of long life, and free from impurities/sins.' ॥ 3-192-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] yudhiSThirò dharmarAjaH papraccha bharatarSabha mArkaNDeyaM tapòvRddhaM dIryAyura ama akalmaSama ॥ 3-192-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविदितास तव धर्मज्ञ देवदानवराक्षसाः राजवंशाश च विविधा ऋषिवंशाश च शाश्वताः न ते ऽसत्य अविदितं किं चिद अस्मिँल लॊके दविजॊत्तम ॥ ३-१९२-२ ॥
'O knower of dharma, you know of the devas (gods), danavas (demons), and rakshasas (ogres). And ॥ you know of॥ the various royal dynasties and the eternal sage lineages. O best of the twice-born, there is nothing unknown to you in this world.' ॥ 3-192-2 ॥
english translation
viditAsa tava dharmajJa devadAnavarAkSasAH rAjavaMzAza ca vividhA RSivaMzAza ca zAzvatAH na te 'satya aviditaM kiM cida asmi~la lòke davijòttama ॥ 3-192-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथां वेत्सि मुने दिव्यां मनुष्यॊरगरक्षसाम एतद इच्छाम्य अहं शरॊतुं तत्त्वेन कथितं दविज ॥ ३-१९२-३ ॥
'O sage, you know the divine stories of humans, nagas (serpents), and rakshasas. I wish to hear this told truthfully, O twice-born one.' ॥ 3-192-3 ॥

kathAM vetsi mune divyAM manuSyòragarakSasAma etada icchAmya ahaM zaròtuM tattvena kathitaM davija ॥ 3-192-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकुवलाश्व इति खयात इक्ष्वाकुर अपराजितः कथं नाम विपर्यासाद धुन्धुमारत्वम आगतः ॥ ३-१९२-४ ॥
'How did the unconquered Ikshvaku (king) known as Kuvalashva come to be known as Dhundhumara through a change/transformation?' ॥ 3-192-4 ॥

kuvalAzva iti khayAta ikSvAkura aparAjitaH kathaM nAma viparyAsAda dhundhumAratvama AgataH ॥ 3-192-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतद इच्छामि तत्त्वेन जञातुं भार्गव सत्तम विपर्यस्तं यथा नाम कुवलाश्वस्य धीमतः ॥ ३-१९२-५ ॥
'O foremost of Bhrigu's line, I wish to know in detail how the name of the wise and intelligent Kuvalaswa came to be altered!' ॥ 3-192-5 ॥

etada icchAmi tattvena jaJAtuM bhArgava sattama viparyastaM yathA nAma kuvalAzvasya dhImataH ॥ 3-192-5 ॥
