[मार्क] हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि शृणु राजन युधिष्ठिर धर्मिष्ठम इदम आख्यानं दुन्धु मारस्य तच छृणु ॥ ३-१९२-६ ॥
'Markandeya said, "O noble Yudhishthira, listen as I recount the tale of Dundhumara. It is a righteous and instructive story—heed it well!"' ॥ 3-192-6 ॥
english translation
यथा स राजा इक्ष्वाकुः कुवलाश्वॊ महीपतिः धुन्धुमारत्वम अगमत तच छृणुष्व महीपते ॥ ३-१९२-७ ॥
'Listen, O king, to the tale of how the noble Kuvalaswa of the Ikshvaku lineage came to be known as Dundhumara.' ॥ 3-192-7 ॥
english translation
महर्षिर विश्रुतस तात उत्तङ्क इति भारत मरुधन्वसु रम्येषु आश्रमस तस्य कौरव ॥ ३-१९२-८ ॥
'O scion of the Bharata race, there once lived a renowned sage named Utanka, who resided in a serene and enchanting forest.' ॥ 3-192-8 ॥
english translation
उत्तङ्कस तु महाराज तपॊ ऽतप्यत सुदुश्चरम आरिराधयिषुर विष्णुं बहून वर्षगणान विभॊ ॥ ३-१९२-९ ॥
'And, O great king, the sage Utanka undertook the most rigorous austerities, enduring countless years of ascetic penance to seek the favor of Lord Vishnu.' ॥ 3-192-9 ॥
english translation
तस्य परीतः स भगवान साक्षाद दर्शनम एयिवान दृष्ट्वैव चर्षिः परह्वस तं तुष्टाव विविधैर सतवैः ॥ ३-१९२-१० ॥
'Pleased with his unwavering devotion, that illustrious Lord finally appeared before Utanka. Upon beholding the Deity, the Rishi, in utmost humility, began to honor Him with numerous hymns of praise.' ॥ 3-192-10 ॥
