[वाम] नानुयॊगा बराह्मणानां भवन्ति; वाचा राजन मनसा कर्मणा वा यस तव एवं बरह्म तपसान्वेति; विद्वांस तेन शरेष्ठॊ भवति हि जीवमानः ॥ ३-१९०-६६ ॥
'Then Vamadeva replied, "O king, when thou didst acquire these Vami steeds, thou hadst promised, 'I will return them.' Therefore, return unto me my Vami steeds, that thou mayst secure the safety of thy life."' ॥ 3-190-66 ॥
english translation
[मार्क] एवम उक्ते वामदेवेन राजन; समुत्तस्थू राक्षसा घॊररूपाः तैः शूलहस्तैर वध्यमानः स राजा; परॊवाचेदं वाक्यम उच्चैस तदानीम ॥ ३-१९०-६७ ॥
'When thus addressed by Vamadeva, the king saw fierce Rakshasas with terrible forms rise up. While being pierced by their sharp lances, the king spoke loudly these words:' ॥ 3-190-67 ॥
english translation
इक्ष्वाकवॊ यदि बरह्मन दलॊ वा; विधेया मे यदि वान्ये विशॊ ऽपि नॊत्स्रक्ष्ये ऽहं वामदेवस्य वाम्यौ; नैवंविधा धर्मशीला भवन्ति ॥ ३-१९०-६८ ॥
'O Brahmin, whether they be the Ikshvakus (a royal dynasty), Or any other clan or common people; I shall not abandon the teachings of Vamadeva, For those who follow dharma (righteousness) do not behave in such a way.' ॥ 3-190-68 ॥
english translation
एवं बरुवन्न एव स यातुधानैर; हतॊ जगामाशु महीं कषितीशः ततॊ विदित्वा नृपतिं निपातितम; इक्ष्वाकवॊ वै दलम अभ्यषिञ्चन ॥ ३-१९०-६९ ॥
'As the king spoke those words, the Rakshasas struck him down, and the lord of the earth was soon lying prostrate on the ground. Upon learning of their king's death, the Ikshvakus installed Dala on the throne.' ॥ 3-190-69 ॥

राज्ये तदा तत्र गत्वा स विप्रः; परॊवाचेदं वचनं वामदेवः दलं राजानं बराह्मणानां हि देयम; एवं राजन सर्वधर्मेषु दृष्टम ॥ ३-१९०-७० ॥
'The Brahmana Vamadeva, upon reaching the kingdom of the Ikshvakus, addressed the new monarch, saying, "O king, it is declared in all the sacred scriptures that one should give unto the Brahmanas.' ॥ 3-190-70 ॥
