[अस्ट] भॊ भॊ राजञ जनकानां वरिष्ठ; सभाज्यस तवं तवयि सर्वं समृद्धम तवं वा कर्ता कर्मणां यज्ञियानां; ययातिर एकॊ नृपतिर वा पुरस्तात ॥ ३-१३३-१६ ॥
'Ashtavakra, addressing the king, said, "O King, O foremost of Janaka's lineage, you are the supreme sovereign, and all power resides with you. In ancient times, King Yayati was the presider over sacrifices, and now it is you who perform these sacred rites."' ॥ 3-133-16 ॥

विद्वान बन्दी वेद विदॊ निगृह्य; वादे भग्नान अप्रतिशङ्कमानः तवया निसृष्टैः पुरुषैर आप्तकृद्भिर; जले सर्वान मज्जयतीति नः शरुतम ॥ ३-१३३-१७ ॥
'We have heard that the learned Vandin, after defeating skilled debaters in controversy, causes them to be drowned by loyal servants in your service. This is what we have heard.' ॥ 3-133-17 ॥

स तच छरुत्वा बराह्मणानां सकाशाद; बरह्मॊद्यं वै कथयितुम आगतॊ ऽसमि कवासौ बन्दी यावद एनं समेत्य; नक्षत्राणीव सविता नाशयामि ॥ ३-१३३-१८ ॥
'Hearing this, I have come before these Brahmanas to expound the doctrine of the unity of the Supreme Being. Where is Vandin now? Tell me, so that I may approach him and vanquish him, even as the sun dispels the stars.' ॥ 3-133-18 ॥

[र] आशंससे बन्दिनं तवं विजेतुम; अविज्ञात्वा वाक्यबलं परस्य विज्ञात वीर्यैः शक्यम एवं; परवक्तुं दृष्टश चासौ बराह्मणैर वादशीलैः ॥ ३-१३३-१९ ॥
'Thereupon the king replied, "O Brahmana, thou art eager to defeat Vandin, but thou art unaware of his mastery over speech. Those who are familiar with his eloquence would not speak as thou dost. He has been tested by Brahmanas well-versed in the Vedas.' ॥ 3-133-19 ॥

[अस्ट] विवादितॊ ऽसौ न हि मादृशैर हि; सिंही कृतस तेन वदत्य अभीतः समेत्य मां निहतः शेष्यते ऽदय; मार्गे भग्नं शकटम इवाबलाक्षम ॥ ३-१३३-२० ॥
'Ashtavakra said, "Vandin has never faced a man like me in disputation; it is only for this reason that he prides himself as a lion, roaring in arrogance. But today, when he encounters me, he shall fall lifeless, like a cart on the road with its wheels shattered."' ॥ 3-133-20 ॥
