येनेमं वर्जयेथास तवं कर्मणा पक्षिसत्तम तद आचक्ष्व करिष्यामि न हि दास्ये कपॊतकम ॥ ३-१३१-२१ ॥
'With the sole exception of this pigeon, which has come to me seeking my protection, I will gladly grant thee whatever thou mayest ask for. Tell me what I must do to ensure the safety of this bird, but on no condition shall I surrender it to thee.' ॥ 3-131-21 ॥
english translation
[ष] उशीनर कपॊते ते यदि सनेहॊ नराधिप आत्मनॊ मांसम उत्कृत्य कपॊत तुलया धृतम ॥ ३-१३१-२२ ॥
'The hawk said, "O mighty ruler, if you have such affection for this pigeon, then sever a portion of your own flesh and weigh it against this pigeon in a balance."' ॥ 3-131-22 ॥
english translation
यदा समं कपॊतेन तव मांसं भवेन नृप तदा परदेयं तन मह्यं सा मे तुष्टिर भविष्यति ॥ ३-१३१-२३ ॥
'The hawk said, "When you find your flesh equal in weight to the pigeon, then you may give it to me, and that will bring me satisfaction."' ॥ 3-131-23 ॥
english translation
[र] अनुग्रहम इमं मन्ये शयेनयन माभियाचसे तस्मात ते ऽदय परदास्यामि सवमांसं तुलया धृतम ॥ ३-१३१-२४ ॥
'The king replied, "O hawk, I consider this request of yours a favor to me. Therefore, I shall give you my own flesh, weighed in a balance, as you have asked."' ॥ 3-131-24 ॥

[ल] अथॊत्कृत्य सवमांसं तु राजा परमधर्मवित तुलयाम आस कौन्तेय कपॊतेन सहाभिभॊ ॥ ३-१३१-२५ ॥
'Lomasa said, "Thus speaking, O mighty son of Kunti, the king, steadfast in virtue, cut off a portion of his own flesh and placed it in the balance, weighing it against the pigeon."' ॥ 3-131-25 ॥
