एवम उक्तः समयन्न इन्द्रम अभिवीक्ष्य स भार्गवः जग्राह विधिवत सॊमम अश्विभ्याम उत्तमं गरहम ।। ३-१२४-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus addressed by Indra, the son of Bhrigu cast a smiling glance at him, and, with due ceremony, took up a generous portion of the Soma juice to offer to the Ashvins.' ।। 3-124-16 ।।

english translation

evama uktaH samayanna indrama abhivIkSya sa bhArgavaH jagrAha vidhivata sòmama azvibhyAma uttamaM garahama || 3-124-16 ||

hk transliteration

ततॊ ऽसमै पराहरद वज्रं घॊररूपं शचीपतिः तस्य परहरतॊ बाहुं सतम्भयाम आस भार्गवः ।। ३-१२४-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, the lord of Sachi hurled his dreadful thunderbolt at him. But as he was about to release it, the son of Bhrigu paralyzed his arm.' ।। 3-124-17 ।।

english translation

tatò 'samai parAharada vajraM ghòrarUpaM zacIpatiH tasya paraharatò bAhuM satambhayAma Asa bhArgavaH || 3-124-17 ||

संस्तम्भयित्वा चयवनॊ जुहुवे मन्त्रतॊ ऽनलम कृत्यार्थी सुमहातेजा देवं हिंसितुम उद्यतः ।। ३-१२४-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'After rendering Indra's arm motionless, Chyavana recited sacred hymns and made the offering into the fire. Having achieved his goal, he then sought to destroy the celestial.' ।। 3-124-18 ।।

english translation

saMstambhayitvA cayavanò juhuve mantratò 'nalama kRtyArthI sumahAtejA devaM hiMsituma udyataH || 3-124-18 ||

ततः कृत्या समभवद ऋषेस तस्य तपॊबलात मदॊ नाम महावीर्यॊ बृहत कायॊ महासुरः शरीरं यस्य निर्देष्टुम अशक्यं तु सुरासुरैः ।। ३-१२४-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, by the power of the sage's asceticism, there manifested an evil spirit—a colossal demon named Mada, of immense strength and vast proportions. His body could not be measured by either gods or demons.' ।। 3-124-19 ।।

english translation

tataH kRtyA samabhavada RSesa tasya tapòbalAta madò nAma mahAvIryò bRhata kAyò mahAsuraH zarIraM yasya nirdeSTuma azakyaM tu surAsuraiH || 3-124-19 ||

तस्यास्यम अभवद घॊरं तीक्ष्णाग्रदशनं महत हनुर एका सथिता तस्य भूमाव एका दिवं गता ।। ३-१२४-२० ।।

sanskrit

'His mouth was fearsome and immense, with teeth as sharp as blades. One of his jaws rested upon the earth, while the other reached up to the heavens.' ।। 3-124-20 ।।

tasyAsyama abhavada ghòraM tIkSNAgradazanaM mahata hanura ekA sathitA tasya bhUmAva ekA divaM gatA || 3-124-20 ||
