निवार्य भीमॊ जिष्णुं तु तद रक्षॊ घॊरदर्शनम अभिद्रुत्याब्रवीद वाक्यं तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति भारत ॥ ३-१२-४१ ॥
'O Bharata, as Jishnu refrained from action, Bhima approached the roaring Rakshasa and commanded him, "Stop! Stop!"' ॥ 3-12-41 ॥
english translation
इत्य उक्त्वैनम अभिक्रुद्धः कक्ष्याम उत्पीड्य पाण्डवः निष्पिष्य पाणिना पाणिं संदष्टौष्ठ पुटॊ बली तम अभ्यधावद वेगेन भीमॊ वृक्षायुधस तदा ॥ ३-१२-४२ ॥
'Thus addressing the Rakshasa, and tightening the cloth around his waist, Bhima rubbed his palms and bit his lower lip in preparation. Armed with the tree as a weapon, he charged at his foe with great force.' ॥ 3-12-42 ॥
english translation
यमदण्डप्रतीकाशं ततस तं तस्य मूर्धनि पातयाम आस वेगेन कुलिशं मघवान इव ॥ ३-१२-४३ ॥
'Like Maghavat hurling his thunderbolt, Bhima swung the tree—resembling Yama's mace—down upon the Rakshasa’s head.' ॥ 3-12-43 ॥
english translation
असंभ्रान्तं तु तद रक्षः समरे परत्यदृश्यत चिक्षेप चॊल्मिकं दीप्तम अशनिं जवलिताम इव ॥ ३-१२-४४ ॥
'Despite the mighty blow, the Rakshasa remained unmoved and steadfast in the conflict. In retaliation, he hurled his flaming brand, blazing like lightning, at Bhima.' ॥ 3-12-44 ॥
english translation
तद उदस्तम अलातं तु भीमः परहरतां वरः पदा सव्येन चिक्षेप तद रक्षः पुनर आव्रजत ॥ ३-१२-४५ ॥
'But that foremost of warriors, Bhima, deflected the fiery brand with his left foot, causing it to return towards the Rakshasa.' ॥ 3-12-45 ॥
