तत्राभिषिक्तः पृथु लॊहिताक्षः; सहानुजैर देवगणान पितॄंश च संतर्पयाम आस तथैव कृष्णा; ते चापि विप्राः सह लॊमशेन ।। ३-११८-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'There, with his large red eyes, he bathed alongside all his younger brothers and offered libations to their forefathers and the celestial hosts. Likewise, Krishna and all the Brahmanas, together with Lomasa, participated in the sacred rites.' ।। 3-118-16 ।।

english translation

tatrAbhiSiktaH pRthu lòhitAkSaH; sahAnujaira devagaNAna pitRRMza ca saMtarpayAma Asa tathaiva kRSNA; te cApi viprAH saha lòmazena || 3-118-16 ||

hk transliteration

स दवादशाहं जलवायुभक्षः; कुर्वन कषपाहःसु तदाभिषेकम समन्ततॊ ऽगनीन उपदीपयित्वा; तेपे तपॊ धर्मभृतां वरिष्ठः ।। ३-११८-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'For twelve days, he sustained himself solely on air and water. He performed ablutions day and night, surrounding himself with fires kindled on all sides. Thus, the greatest of all virtuous men devoted himself to his ascetic practices.' ।। 3-118-17 ।।

english translation

sa davAdazAhaM jalavAyubhakSaH; kurvana kaSapAhaHsu tadAbhiSekama samantatò 'ganIna upadIpayitvA; tepe tapò dharmabhRtAM variSThaH || 3-118-17 ||

तम उग्रम आस्थाय तपश चरन्तं; शुश्राव रामश च जनार्दनश च तौ सर्ववृष्णिप्रवरौ स सैन्यौ; युधिष्ठिरं जग्मतुर आजमीढम ।। ३-११८-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'While he was engaged in such severe penances, news reached both Balarama and Krishna that the king was undertaking the most austere forms of asceticism. Accompanied by their troops, these two leaders of the Vrishni tribe set out to visit Yudhishthira, who belonged to the Ajamidha lineage.' ।। 3-118-18 ।।

tama ugrama AsthAya tapaza carantaM; zuzrAva rAmaza ca janArdanaza ca tau sarvavRSNipravarau sa sainyau; yudhiSThiraM jagmatura AjamIDhama || 3-118-18 ||

ते वृष्णयः पाण्डुसुतान समीक्ष्य; भूमौ शयानान मलदिग्ध गात्रान अनर्हतीं दरौपदीं चापि दृष्ट्वा; सुदुःखिताश चुक्रुशुर आर्तनादम ।। ३-११८-१९ ।।

'When the Vrishnis saw the sons of Pandu lying on the ground, their bodies covered in dirt, and beheld the daughter of Drupada in a pitiful state, their sorrow deepened. Unable to contain themselves, they broke into loud lamentations.' ।। 3-118-19 ।।

english translation

te vRSNayaH pANDusutAna samIkSya; bhUmau zayAnAna maladigdha gAtrAna anarhatIM daraupadIM cApi dRSTvA; suduHkhitAza cukruzura ArtanAdama || 3-118-19 ||

hk transliteration

ततः स रामं च जनार्दनं च; कार्ष्णिं च साम्बं च शिनेश च पौत्रम अन्यांश च वृष्णीन उपगम्य पूजां; चक्रे यथा धर्मम अदीनसत्त्वः ।। ३-११८-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Then the king, whose courage remained unshaken by adversity, warmly greeted Rama, Krishna, Samba (Krishna's son), Shini's grandson, and the other Vrishnis. He honored them appropriately, and in return, they paid their respects to all the sons of Pritha, who likewise honored the sons of Pandu.' ।। 3-118-20 ।।

tataH sa rAmaM ca janArdanaM ca; kArSNiM ca sAmbaM ca zineza ca pautrama anyAMza ca vRSNIna upagamya pUjAM; cakre yathA dharmama adInasattvaH || 3-118-20 ||
