Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “The Pāṇḍava bears the radiance of a kṣatriya and has lived as a brahmacārin—disciplined and celibate—since boyhood. Because of him they will come to battle, while I, lamenting, remain powerless.”

english translation

O Duryodhana, best of the Bharatas, withdraw from war; for conflict is not praised in every circumstance, O subduer of foes.

english translation

Half the earth is enough for you to live, together with your ministers. Grant the sons of Pāṇḍu what is fitting, O subduer of foes.

english translation

Indeed, all the Kurus deem this consonant with dharma: that you should seek reconciliation with the great-souled sons of Pāṇḍu.

english translation

My son, look closely at this—your own host. From the very outset the burden has been yours; yet, through delusion, you do not understand.
