Kuntī said: Here too I shall cite an ancient historical exemplum—the dialogue of Vidurā and her son, O scorcher of foes.

english translation

Here, concerning what is beneficial and what is higher still, she is fit to speak. Renowned and resolute, born in a noble lineage, she was Vibhāvarī.

english translation

Blessed Vidurā—devoted to kṣatriya-dharma, far-sighted, widely renowned in royal assemblies, famed for authoritative, well-heard speech, and learned in many teachings—was present there.

english translation

Vidurā, a woman of truth, reproached her own legitimate son: defeated by the king of Sindhu, he lay withdrawn with a dejected mind, bringing no satisfaction, lacking discernment of dharma, and thus increasing the delight of his foes.

english translation

“You seem born neither of me nor of your father—where have you come from? Devoid of spirited resolve, a mere offshoot, a man who serves the purposes of timidity.”
