Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Having heard Sañjaya’s words, the king—whose sight was wisdom—then began to assess that speech in terms of its merits and faults.

english translation

Discerning, he examined with subtlety the merits and defects, with a mind oriented to what is real and fitting—though desiring victory for his sons.

english translation

Having determined, with factual discernment, what constituted strength and weakness, the wise lord of men then began to assess the relative capacities of the two sides.

english translation

He then addressed Duryodhana, stating that the Pāṇḍavas possessed superior power and radiance—supported by both divine and human resources—whereas the Kurus were comparatively lesser in capacity.

english translation

‘Duryodhana, this concern of mine never subsides. I hold this to be true—known by direct observation, not merely by inference.’
