Bhīṣma said: Then, at dawn, O lord of kings, when the clear sun had risen, the battle between Bhārgava (Paraśurāma) and me began anew.

english translation

Then, standing upon his moving chariot, Rāma—foremost among combatants—rained volleys of arrows upon me, like Śakra (Indra) pouring rain upon a mountain.

english translation

Struck by that shower of arrows, my charioteer—who was also my well-wisher—fell onto the chariot-platform, causing my mind to sink into distress.

english translation

Then that charioteer of mine fell into a severe crisis of consciousness; struck by arrows, he collapsed onto the ground and lost awareness.

english translation

Then the charioteer, overwhelmed by Rāma’s arrows, lost his life. At that moment, O lord of kings, fear entered me as well, as if suddenly.
