Sañjaya said: Your conduct, O Pāṇḍava, is ever aligned with dharma; it is spoken of in the world and is also seen, O Pārtha. Seeing that life is greatly draining and impermanent, O Pāṇḍava, do not be led into despair.

english translation

If the Kurus do not grant you your share by any means other than war, O Ajātaśatru, I deem a life of mendicancy in the realm of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis preferable—not kingship obtained through war.

english translation

Human life is short; it is greatly draining, ever afflicted with sorrow, and unstable. Moreover, it often fails to match one’s age and expectations; therefore, O Pāṇḍava, do not extend yourself into wrongdoing.

english translation

Desires, O king, fasten themselves upon a person—desires that become the root of obstacles to dharma. One who is steadfast and restrains them at the very outset wins blameless praise in the world.

english translation

Craving for wealth is indeed a binding fetter here, O Pārtha; by it dharma itself is thrust aside. But one who chooses dharma is discerning; one who is greedy for pleasures declines, compelled by deference to material gain.
