Making dharma the foremost principle of action, dear one, a person of great might shines like the sun. But by abandoning dharma, even after obtaining the earth, one of corrupted judgment falls into decline.

english translation

The Veda has been studied, the discipline of brahmacarya has been lived, sacrifices have been offered, and gifts have been given to the brāhmaṇas. Yet, imagining once more a “higher state,” one surrenders oneself for a multitude of years to pleasures.

english translation

One who is devoted to pleasure beyond measure and does not undertake the discipline and effort of yogic practice—when wealth diminishes, is deprived of comfort and lies long in distress, driven by the momentum of desire.

english translation

Thus, one absorbed in the pursuit of worldly gain, who abandons dharma and commits adharma—without faith in the reality of the next world—after leaving the body suffers thereafter, deluded and morally dull.

english translation

In the hereafter there is no annihilation of actions, whether meritorious or sinful. First, merit and demerit proceed from the agent; afterward, the agent inevitably follows that very consequence.
