Śalya said: Knowing that Nahuṣa was enraged, the gods—preceded by the ṛṣis—addressed king Nahuṣa, whose appearance was formidable.

O king of the gods, abandon anger. When you are angered, O lord of the world, the entire realm becomes alarmed—together with the asuras, gandharvas, kinnaras, and great serpents.

english translation

Abandon this anger, O virtuous one; persons of your kind do not become wrathful. That goddess is another’s wife—be gracious, O lord of the gods.

Turn your mind back from wrongdoing—namely, from approaching another’s wife. You are the king of the gods; may it be well with you. Protect your subjects in accordance with dharma.

Though addressed in this manner, he did not accept their words, being deluded by desire. Then the lord of the gods spoke thus to the gods, with reference to Indra.
