Some ascetics said, “Let her be taken to her father’s house.” Others—the foremost among the twice-born—formed the view that the responsibility lay with us, and that we must answer for this matter.

Some thought, “She should be directed back by approaching the king of Śālva.” Others decided, “No,” for she had already been rejected by him.

english translation

Since matters have come to this, what can the wise do, O gentle one? Then all those ascetics, steadfast in their disciplined vows, spoke again.

english translation

Enough of renunciant wandering here, O gentle one; listen to beneficial counsel. From here, go—may it be well with you—to your father’s residence.
