Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: As I lie awake, inwardly consumed, tell me whatever course of action you discern as needful. For you, dear one, are pure and skilled in both dharma and artha.

english translation

Instruct me properly, Vidura, with full discernment, in all that concerns Ajātaśatru. Whatever you deem wholesome and beneficial—O you of undepressed resolve—declare that as what is truly best for the Kurus.

english translation

Fearing sin and seeing only sin ahead, I ask you with a troubled mind. O sage-poet, tell me fully and truly all that Ajātaśatru intends.

english translation

Vidura said: Whether it is auspicious or harmful, whether it is unpleasant or dear—one should speak it even unasked to the person whose downfall one does not wish.

english translation

Therefore, O king, wishing well-being for the Kurus, I shall speak to you words that accord with dharma and lead to the highest good. Attend to what I say.
