O Bhārata, do not set your mind on deeds that may seem to succeed when joined with falsehood, yet are undertaken without proper means.
english translation
Likewise, O king, even a deed enjoined by disciplined practice may fail to succeed. But the discerning, furnished with proper means, does not let the mind sink into despondency there.
english translation
In deeds that bear further consequences, one should examine the chain of implications. Act only after careful deliberation, and do not proceed under the force of impulsive haste.
english translation
Having examined the connected consequences and the eventual outcomes of actions—and also one’s own capacity to undertake them—a steady-minded person should decide whether to act or to refrain.
english translation
One who does not understand proper measure—what is fitting in stability, in expansion, and in decline—regarding the treasury, the realm and its people, and the administration of punishment, does not remain secure in kingship.
