For the grandsire Gāṅgeya, foremost in Śaṃtanu’s line, was born like a brahmarṣi and was formidable even to the gods. Indeed, his father, pleased, told him: “You will not die against your will.”

english translation

From the brahmarṣi Bharadvāja, in Droṇī, Droṇa was born; and from Droṇa, O great king, Drauṇi was born—one supremely skilled in weapons and astras.

english translation

And Kṛpa—this foremost among teachers—was also born of the great ṛṣi Gautama, arising from a clump of reeds, illustrious; in my view he is not to be slain, as though invulnerable.

english translation

Indeed, three related figures are said to be non-womb-born—his father, his mother, and his maternal uncle. O great king, that Aśvatthāman too stands on my side as a hero.

english translation

All these, O great king, are great chariot-warriors, comparable to the gods; in battle they could cause distress even to Śakra (Indra), O bull of the Bharatas.
