दृष्ट्वा विराटनगरे भ्रातरं निहतं प्रियम् । धनंजयेन विक्रम्य किमनेन तदा कृतम्॥५-४८-३७॥
When, in the city of Virāṭa, he saw his beloved brother brought down after Dhanañjaya’s decisive advance, what did he accomplish then?

सहितान्हि कुरून्सर्वानभियातो धनंजयः । प्रमथ्य चाच्छिनद्गावः किमयं प्रोषितस्तदा॥५-४८-३८॥
For Dhanañjaya confronted all the Kurus assembled together and, after overpowering them, recovered the cattle; where was this man then, being absent?

गन्धर्वैर्घोषयात्रायां ह्रियते यत्सुतस्तव । क्व तदा सूतपुत्रोऽभूद्य इदानीं वृषायते॥५-४८-३९॥
When, during the Ghoṣa-yātrā, your son was carried off by the Gandharvas, where then was the charioteer’s son—he who now postures with confidence?

ननु तत्रापि पार्थेन भीमेन च महात्मना । यमाभ्यामेव चागम्य गन्धर्वास्ते पराजिताः॥५-४८-४०॥
Indeed, there too, the Gandharvas were overcome only after Pārtha and the great-souled Bhīma—and the two sons of Yama—arrived.
