One who, while speaking, does not inflame his own inner self, and who does not appropriate what belongs to a brāhmaṇa—his food is regarded as acceptable by the virtuous.
english translation
Just as a dog repeatedly consumes its own vomit to its detriment, so too do those people consume what is ‘already expelled’—living off their own mere force rather than disciplined merit.
english translation
A brāhmaṇa should think, ‘Let my conduct remain continually unobtrusive, not performed for display.’ Living among one’s relatives, one should not become conspicuous in any way.
english translation
For who would deem it proper to harm a brāhmaṇa who is thus inwardly self-governed? Therefore, O kṣatriya, one should recognize that something of Brahman is seen to dwell within him.
english translation
By not accepting improper gifts, he remains unwearied, esteemed, and free from disturbance. A brāhmaṇa—cultivated, a knower of Brahman, and a poet-sage—should not behave in a manner unworthy of the cultivated.
