Those twice-born who are not wealthy in human riches but are wealthy in the Vedas—know them to be hard to overpower and hard to unsettle; understand them as embodying the very form of Brahman.

english translation

Whoever here understands all the deities as ‘well-sacrificed-to’—properly honored—knows that, in the domain in which the brāhmaṇa strives by his own effort, none is equal to him.

english translation

If people honor one who is not striving, he is merely honored. But one who is not being honored should not brood over it, nor become inwardly inflamed due to lack of recognition.

english translation

One who is honored may think, “The learned honor me here.” One who is not honored may think, “Fools—though skilled in worldly treatises yet ignorant of dharma—will not honor what is truly worthy of honor.”

english translation

Honor-seeking and silence do not always move together. For this world is oriented toward honor, and that other world is also oriented toward honor—so the discerning understand.
