For embodied beings, this state appears as a darkness without light, like a hellish condition. They rush onward as though seized, moving with their faces turned toward a pit.

english translation

Covetous fixation strikes a person down first; thereafter desire and anger seize him. These drive the immature toward death, whereas the steady-minded cross beyond death through fortitude.

english translation

When a kṣatriya becomes self-conceited, he no longer attends to anything else; like a tiger, he turns predatory. From anger and greed, his inner self becomes constituted of delusion—this indeed is the ‘death’ that resides within your body.

english translation

Knowing thus how ‘death’ arises, one who stands firm in knowledge does not fear death here. For that person, death is nullified within its own domain—just as death is effective only when a mortal enters its range.

english translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: Some in this world do not practice Dharma, while others do practice Dharma. Is Dharma obstructed by wrongdoing, or does Dharma obstruct wrongdoing?
