One who does not begin quarrel, does not incite quarrel, does not strike back when unstruck, and does not cause harm; and who does not even wish sin upon one intent on harming him—such a one is awaited with longing even by the gods.

english translation

They say that unspoken silence is better than speech. Yet if one must speak, let one speak truth—this is second; speak what is pleasing—this is third; speak what is righteous and fitting according to dharma—this is fourth.

english translation

A person becomes like those with whom he converses and those whom he frequents; and he becomes like what he chooses and desires to become.

english translation

From whatever one withdraws, from that one is released. Indeed, by withdrawing on all sides, one does not experience even the slightest suffering.

english translation

He is not defeated, nor does he seek to defeat others; he does not create enmity and does not retaliate. Of equal disposition in blame and praise, he neither grieves nor exults.
