Barbed arrows and darts can be extracted from the body; but the barb of speech cannot be removed, for it remains lodged in the heart.

english translation

Speech-arrows fly forth from the mouth; one struck by them grieves by night and by day. They fall upon the vital points of another; therefore a learned person should not release them against others.

english translation

For the man to whom the gods allot defeat, they draw away his discernment; then he beholds matters in a reversed and perverse way.

english translation

When the intellect is tainted and destruction draws near, a course that is not true policy—though it resembles policy—does not withdraw from the heart.

english translation

This very discernment of yours, O Bhārata, has been overpowered by attachment to your sons and by opposition to the Pāṇḍavas—and you do not recognize it.
