Sañjaya said: I take leave of you, O god among kings; I shall depart, O Pāṇḍava—may well-being attend you. Have I, from some agitation of mind, uttered any improper word?

english translation

Having taken leave of Janārdana, of Bhīmasena and Arjuna, of the sons of Mādrī, and of Sātyaki and Cekitāna, I now depart. May auspiciousness and well-being attend you. O kings, look upon me with a gentle regard.

english translation

Yudhiṣṭhira said: With our permission, Sañjaya, go in safety. You have never done anything displeasing to us. We all know you—as does your side as well—as one of purified intent, standing in the midst of the assembly.

english translation

Sañjaya, you are a trusted envoy and dear to us—one whose speech is auspicious, whose conduct is disciplined, and who is discerning. Do not become confused in judgment, Sañjaya, and do not grow resentful even when truth is spoken to you.

english translation

You will never speak harsh words that strike at vulnerabilities, nor bitter flattery, nor barbed insinuation. Charioteer’s son, I know your speech to be grounded in dharma, purposeful, and non-injurious.
