If there exists someone superior—competent and well-grounded in every aspect of dharma—he should, for the people’s sake, discipline that wrongful person; but if he would act from greed, then in that case it is not proper.

english translation

When a ruthless ruler covets another’s land and, by disrupting the rightful order, seizes power, then war arises among kings; from that condition emerge armor, weapons, and the bow. This martial apparatus—armor, weapons, and bow—is said to have been instituted by Indra for the suppression of predatory aggressors.

english translation

A thief takes wealth where he is unseen; or, by coercion, he takes even when seen. Both are blameworthy, Sañjaya—what real difference is there in the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra? For, driven by greed, he deems this to be dharma and pursues what he desires under the sway of anger.

english translation

The Pāṇḍavas’ allotted share was duly established; others should not seize it without cause. If we must contend at this position, even our death would be commendable—ancestral and superior to living under another’s rule. Declare these ancient Kaurava norms, Sañjaya, within the kingdom.

english translation

Those foolish persons, overcome by the power of death, were assembled by the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra in delusion. Observe again this still more blameworthy conduct—the events that occurred among the Kurus in the assembly hall.
