O Pāṇḍava, whether one contends in folly or knowingly embraces adharma, one departs from the path of prosperity. Even the discerning who understand dharma may, through agitation and impulsive fervor, likewise fall away from prosperity.
english translation
O Pārtha, your intellect is not set upon adharma, nor have you committed sinful action out of agitation. What, then, is the cause for which you now wish to undertake a deed that runs contrary to discernment?
english translation
Anger is not a disease, yet it is bitter: it becomes a headache, it steals one’s renown, and it brings forth the fruit of sin. It is a “drink” of the virtuous—one the unvirtuous do not drink. O great king, “drink” your anger, containing it within, and become calm.
english translation
Who would desire an outcome entangled with demerit? For you, forbearance is higher—not enjoyment—if it must mean a contest in which Bhīṣma, son of Śāntanu, would fall, and Droṇa together with his son would fall.
english translation
Kṛpa, Śalya, the son of Somadatta, Vikarṇa, Viviṃśati, and also Karṇa and Duryodhana—having brought about the fall of these men, what kind of happiness would you obtain? Tell me that, O Pārtha.
