Though unaccomplished, Suyodhana disregards the words of Vidura, who is most accomplished. King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, seeking what is pleasing for his son, enters into adharma even while being admonished.

english translation

O Sūta, King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, out of attachment to his sons, failed to honor Vidura—wise, widely learned, eloquent, and disciplined in conduct—who sought the welfare and prosperity of the Kurus.

english translation

Of one who destroys others’ honor, indulges himself, is jealous and impulsive, transgresses both artha and dharma, speaks harshly, follows anger, is driven by desire, ill-disposed, and given to hostile scheming—

english translation

O Sañjaya, though clearly seeing the long-term harm wrought by his son—ungovernable, bent on what is not beneficial, long resentful, treacherous to allies, and corrupt in judgment—King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, seeking what was dear to him, abandoned both dharma and prudent aims.

english translation

At that very time, O Sañjaya, the thought arose in me that ruin would come upon the Kurus. Even when Vidura spoke in refined, well-crafted speech, he received no commendation from Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
