Having spoken thus, Vidura fell silent, his mind weighed down. Then he reflected deeply and repeatedly exhaled in distress.

english translation

Then Subala’s daughter, fearful of the destruction of the lineage and grounded in dharma and practical welfare, addressed her son Duryodhana—whose intentions were ethically compromised and harsh—before the assembled kings, in anger.

english translation

Let the rulers who have entered the royal assembly, and the brahmarṣis and other members of the court, listen: I will declare your wrongdoing—you who walk in adharma—together with your ministers and retinue.

english translation

The Kuru kingship is to be enjoyed in rightful succession; this is our inherited law of the lineage. But you—of impious judgment and excessively cruel deeds—undermine the Kuru realm through misrule.

english translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra, a prudent man, is established in the kingship, and his younger brother Vidura is far-sighted. Having overstepped even this order, how do you, Duryodhana, seek sovereignty today out of delusion?
