As he (Mātali) searched with effort through the three worlds, O radiant one, your grandson Sumukha appeared pleasing to him as a husband for his daughter.

english translation

If it pleases you, gentle one—best of serpents—do not delay. O venerable elder, promptly form your decision regarding acceptance of the maiden.

english translation

As Lakṣmī is in the lineage of Viṣṇu, and as Svāhā is with Vibhāvasu (Agni), so may Guṇakeśī—slender-waisted—be likewise established in your family.

english translation

Therefore, for your grandson’s sake, please accept Guṇakeśī—suited to him—like Śacī to the splendid Vāsava (Indra).

english translation

Although he is without a father, we choose him on the basis of merit. This is also due to respect for you, and likewise for Airāvata; and due to Sumukha’s qualities—good conduct, purity, self-restraint, and the like.
