Having come in person, Mātali stands ready to offer a maiden. You too should extend to him the honor that is due.

english translation

Kaṇva said: Though distressed, yet also pleased, the venerable one spoke to noble Nārada—at a time when a groom was being sought for his grandson and his son had already passed away.

english translation

O divine seer, I do not deem your statement especially weighty: one who is joined to Śakra (Indra) in friendship—by whom would such a man not be desired?

english translation

Yet because the cause is frail, O great sage, I am anxious. This one’s father—my son of great splendor—was consumed by Vainateya (Garuḍa); therefore we are afflicted with sorrow.

english translation

And again, as Vainateya departed, he said: “After another month, I shall consume Sumukha,” O lord.
