There the deities, together with Śakra, saw Vṛtra—appearing as though he were engulfing the three worlds, like the sun and the moon in eclipse.

english translation

Then the ṛṣis approached and spoke agreeable words to Vṛtra: “O difficult-to-overcome one, this entire world has been pervaded by your potency.”

english translation

And you are not able to decisively overcome Vāsava, who possesses great prowess. Moreover, while you two have been engaged in conflict, a very long time has passed here.

english translation

All beings—devas, asuras, and humans—are being sorely afflicted. Therefore, O Vṛtra, let there be enduring friendship between you and Śakra. You too shall attain well-being, and the everlasting worlds that belong to Śakra.

english translation

Having heard the sages’ words, Vṛtra, of exceedingly great might, then addressed them all, the asura bowing his head in reverence.
