ततःप्रवृत्तंसुक्रूरंरामरावणयोस्तदा । सुमहदद्वैरथंयुद्धंसर्वलोकभयावहम् ॥ ६-१०९-१
Then ensued a fierce and a prolonged chariot-duel between Rama and Ravana, which was frightful to all the worlds. [6-109-1]

ततोराक्षससैन्यं च हरीणां च महद्बलम् । प्रगृहीतप्रहरणंनिश्चेष्टंसमवर्तत ॥ ६-१०९-२
Then, both Rakshasa army and huge Vanara army, stood motionless holding their weapons ready. [6-109-2]

सम्प्रयुद्धेतुतौदृष्टवाबलवन्नरराक्षसौ । व्याक्षिप्तहदृयास्सर्वेपरंविस्मयमागताः ॥ ६-१०९-३
Then, when the mighty human and the Rakshasa were both engaged in the battle, distracted at heart, all experienced supreme wonderment. [6-109-3]

नाप्रहरणैर्व्यग्रैर्भुजैर्विस्मितबुद्धयः । तस्थुःप्रेक्षय च सर्वेतेनाभिजग्मुःपरस्परम् ॥ ६-१०९-४
All the army on both sides lifted their hands up, holding different kinds of implements, and were amazed looking at them and did not attack one another. [6-109-4]

रक्षसांरावणंचापिवानराणां च राघवम् । पश्यतांविस्मिताक्षाणांसैन्यंचित्रमिवाबभौ ॥ ६-१०९-५
The army of Rakshasas was looking at Ravana and the Vanaras were looking at Raghava with astonishment as though it was a wonderful picture. [6-109-5]
