तथातैःकृत्तगात्रैस्तुदशग्रीवेणमार्गणैः । बभूववसुधातत्रप्रकीर्णाहरिभिस्तदा ॥ ६-९७-१
That time the battlefield was strewn with bodies of Vanaras whose limbs had been severed by the arrows of Ravana. [6-97-1]

रावणस्याप्रसह्यंतंशरसम्पातमेकतः । न शेकुस्सहितुंदीप्तंपतङ्गाज्वलनंयथा ॥ ६-९७-२
Just as moths cannot bear the blazing fire, the Vanaras could not bear the glowing hail of Ravana's arrows even for an instant. [6-97-2]
english translation
तेऽर्दितानिशितैर्बाणैःक्रोशन्तोविप्रदुद्रुवुः । पावकार्चिस्समाविष्टादह्यमानायथागजाः ॥ ६-९७-३
Tormented by sharp arrows, the scorched Vanaras fled screaming like elephants enveloped in flames. [6-97-3]

प्लवङ्गनामनीकानिमहाभ्राणीवमारुतः । सययौसमरेतस्मिन्विधमन्रावणश्शरैः ॥ ६-९७-४
At that time, driven by Ravana's arrows, the Vanaras fled from the battlefield just like huge clouds are dissipated by wind. [6-97-4]

कदनंतरसाकृत्वाराक्षसेन्ध्रोवनौकसाम् । आससादततोत्वरितंयुद्धेराघवंस्तदा ॥ ६-९७-५
The Rakshasa king, having destroyed the forest rangers, thereafter, went to Raghava hurriedly. [6-97-5]
