ततःक्रुद्धोदशग्रीवश्शरैःकाञ्चनभूषणैः । वानराणामनीकेषुचकारकदनंमहत् ॥ ६-९६-४१
There the tenheaded Ravana using arrows adorned with gold plumes struck Vanaras and a great war took place. [6-96-41]

विकृत्तशिरसःकेचिद्रावणेनवलीमुखाः । केचिद्विच्छिन्नहृदयाःकेचिच्छ्रोत्रविवर्जिताः ॥ ६-९६-४२
Some vanaras had their heads chopped off by Ravana. Some had their hearts pierced. Some were made deprived of their ears. [6-96-42]

निरुच्छवासाहताःकेचित्केचित्पार्श्वेषुदारिताः । केचिद्विभिन्नशिरसःकेचिच्चक्षुर्विनाकृताः ॥ ६-९६-४३
A few were made lifeless, some had their flanks split, some had their heads smashed and few were deprived of their eyes. [6-96-43]

दशाननःक्रोधविवृत्तनेत्रोयतोयतोऽभ्येतिरथेवसङ्ख्ये । ततस्ततस्तस्यशरप्रवेगंसोढुं न शेकुर्हरियूथपास्ते ॥ ६-९६-४४
In the battlefield wherever Ravana drove in fury, rolling his eyes filled with anger, the monkey troops could not withstand the speed of his arrows. [6-96-44]
