गजेन्द्रविक्रमॊ धीमान दीर्घबाहुर अमर्षणः विक्रान्तः सत्यवाग धीरॊ भर्ता मम महायशाः निषधानाम अधिपतिः कच चिद दृष्टस तवया नलः ।। ३-६१-५१ ।।

'Hast thou, O greatest of mountains, with thy numerous peaks soaring into the sky, glimpsed king Nala in this dreadful forest? Have you seen my husband, that illustrious ruler of the Nishadhas, Nala, whose stride is like that of a mighty elephant?' ।। 3-61-51 ।।

english translation

gajendravikramò dhImAna dIrghabAhura amarSaNaH vikrAntaH satyavAga dhIrò bhartA mama mahAyazAH niSadhAnAma adhipatiH kaca cida dRSTasa tavayA nalaH || 3-61-51 ||

किं मां विलपतीम एकां पर्वतश्रेष्ठ दुःखिताम गिरा नाश्वासयस्य अद्य सवां सुताम इव दुःखिताम ।। ३-६१-५२ ।।

'He is wise, long-armed, and radiant with fiery energy, endowed with valor, patience, courage, and great renown. As I stand here, overwhelmed with sorrow and lamenting alone, why, O best of mountains, do you not comfort me today with your voice, as a father would console his own daughter in distress?' ।। 3-61-52 ।।

kiM mAM vilapatIma ekAM parvatazreSTha duHkhitAma girA nAzvAsayasya adya savAM sutAma iva duHkhitAma || 3-61-52 ||

वीर विक्रान्त धर्मज्ञ सत्यसंध महीपते यद्य अस्य अस्मिन वने राजन दर्शयात्मानम आत्मना ।। ३-६१-५३ ।।

'O hero, O valiant warrior, O master of all duties, O steadfast keeper of truth—if you are within this forest, then, O king, reveal yourself to me.' ।। 3-61-53 ।।

vIra vikrAnta dharmajJa satyasaMdha mahIpate yadya asya asmina vane rAjana darzayAtmAnama AtmanA || 3-61-53 ||

कदा नु सनिग्धगम्भीरां जीमूतस्वनसंनिभाम शरॊष्यामि नैषधस्याहं वाचं ताम अमृतॊपमाम ।। ३-६१-५४ ।।

'Oh, when shall I once more hear the gentle and resonant voice of Nala, akin to the soothing sound of clouds? That voice, sweet as nectar, belonging to the illustrious king.' ।। 3-61-54 ।।

kadA nu sanigdhagambhIrAM jImUtasvanasaMnibhAma zaròSyAmi naiSadhasyAhaM vAcaM tAma amRtòpamAma || 3-61-54 ||

'Calling me ‘Daughter of Vidarbha’ with clear and sacred tones, harmonious like the chanting of the Vedas, easing all my sorrows. O king, I am filled with fear. Do thou, O virtuous one, grant me comfort.' ।। 3-61-55 ।।
