स वै विवस्त्रॊ मलिनॊ विकचः पांसुगुण्ठितः दमयन्त्या सह शरान्तः सुष्वाप धरणीतले ॥ ३-५९-६ ॥

'He, indeed, bereft of clothes, dirty, disheveled, covered in dust, Exhausted, slept on the ground together with Damayanti.' ॥ 3-59-6 ॥

english translation

sa vai vivastrò malinò vikacaH pAMsuguNThitaH damayantyA saha zarAntaH suSvApa dharaNItale ॥ 3-59-6 ॥

दमयन्त्य अपि कल्याणी निद्रयापहृता ततः सहसा दुःखम आसाद्य सुकुमारी तपस्विनी ॥ ३-५९-७ ॥

'Then the auspicious Damayanti, overcome by sleep, The delicate and ascetic one, suddenly encountered sorrow.' ॥ 3-59-7 ॥

सुप्तायां दमयन्त्यां तु नलॊ राजा विशां पते शॊकॊन्मथितचित्तात्मा न सम शेते यथा पुरा ॥ ३-५९-८ ॥

'But when Damayanti was asleep, King Nala, lord of the people, His mind and soul tormented by sorrow, did not rest as he had before.' ॥ 3-59-8 ॥

स तद राज्यापहरणं सुहृत्त्यागं च सर्वशः वने च तं परिध्वंसं परेक्ष्य चिन्ताम उपेयिवान ॥ ३-५९-९ ॥

'Reflecting on the loss of his kingdom, the abandonment of his friends, and that ruin in the forest, he was overcome with anxiety.' ॥ 3-59-9 ॥

'What will be the result of doing this? What will be the result of not doing it? What is better for me - death, or the abandonment by the people?' ॥ 3-59-10 ॥
