नल उवाच यथा राज्यं पितुस ते तत तथा मम न संशयः न तु तत्र गमिष्यामि विषमस्थः कथं चन ॥ ३-५९-१ ॥
'Nala said, 'Indeed, your father's kingdom is as much mine. But I will not go there, under any circumstances, in this state of despair.'' ॥ 3-59-1 ॥
english translation
कथं समृद्धॊ गत्वाहं तव हर्षविवर्धनः परिद्यूनॊ गमिष्यामि तव शॊकविवर्धनः ॥ ३-५९-२ ॥
'Once I graced that place in glory, bringing you joy. How can I now return in misery, only to increase your sorrow?' ॥ 3-59-2 ॥

बृहदश्व उवाच इति बरुवन नलॊ राजा दमयन्तीं पुनः पुनः सान्त्वयाम आस कल्याणीं वाससॊ ऽरधेन संवृताम ॥ ३-५९-३ ॥
'Vrihadaswa continued: 'Repeatedly speaking these words to Damayanti, King Nala, clad in half a garment, consoled his blessed wife.'' ॥ 3-59-3 ॥
english translation
ताव एकवस्त्रसंवीताव अटमानाव इतस ततः कषुत्पिपासापरिश्रान्तौ सभां कां चिद उपेयतुः ॥ ३-५९-४ ॥
'Both attired in a single cloth and weary from hunger and thirst, they eventually came upon a sheltered shed for travelers during their wanderings.' ॥ 3-59-4 ॥

तां सभाम उपसंप्राप्य तदा स निषधाधिपः वैदर्भ्या सहितॊ राजा निषसाद महीतले ॥ ३-५९-५ ॥
'Then that king of Nishadha, along with Vaidarbhi (Damayanti), having reached that assembly, sat down on the ground.' ॥ 3-59-5 ॥
