परिधावन्न अथ नल इतश चेतश च भारत आससाद सभॊद्देशे विकॊशं खड्गम उत्तमम ॥ ३-५९-१६ ॥
'He thought, 'How can I divide this garment without my beloved noticing?' With this thought in mind, King Nala began pacing back and forth inside the hut.'' ॥ 3-59-16 ॥
english translation
paridhAvanna atha nala itaza cetaza ca bhArata AsasAda sabhòddeze vikòzaM khaDgama uttamama ॥ 3-59-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेनार्धं वाससश छित्त्वा निवस्य च परंतपः सुप्ताम उत्सृज्य वैदर्भीं पराद्रवद गतचेतनः ॥ ३-५९-१७ ॥
'And, O Bharata, as he paced back and forth, he discovered a handsome, unsheathed sword lying near the shed. The fierce warrior, using that sword to cut off half of the cloth, discarded the weapon and left the daughter of Vidharbha, insensible in her sleep, as he departed.' ॥ 3-59-17 ॥
english translation
tenArdhaM vAsasaza chittvA nivasya ca paraMtapaH suptAma utsRjya vaidarbhIM parAdravada gatacetanaH ॥ 3-59-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ निबद्धहृदयः पुनर आगम्य तां सभाम दमयन्तीं तथा दृष्ट्वा रुरॊद निषधाधिपः ॥ ३-५९-१८ ॥
'But feeling his heart fail him, the king of the Nishadhas returned to the shed and, upon seeing Damayanti again, burst into tears.' ॥ 3-59-18 ॥
english translation
tatò nibaddhahRdayaH punara Agamya tAM sabhAma damayantIM tathA dRSTvA ruròda niSadhAdhipaH ॥ 3-59-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयां न वायुर न चादित्यः पुरा पश्यति मे परियाम सेयम अद्य सभामध्ये शेते भूमाव अनाथवत ॥ ३-५९-१९ ॥
'He lamented, 'Alas! My beloved, whom neither the god of wind nor the sun has ever seen, now lies upon the bare earth, like one forsaken.' ॥ 3-59-19 ॥
english translation
yAM na vAyura na cAdityaH purA pazyati me pariyAma seyama adya sabhAmadhye zete bhUmAva anAthavata ॥ 3-59-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइयं वस्त्रावकर्तेन संवीता चारुहासिनी उन्मत्तेव वरारॊहा कथं बुद्ध्वा भविष्यति ॥ ३-५९-२० ॥
'Clad in this torn piece of cloth and appearing distraught, how will the radiant one with the beautiful smile react upon awakening?' ॥ 3-59-20 ॥
english translation
iyaM vastrAvakartena saMvItA cAruhAsinI unmatteva varAròhA kathaM buddhvA bhaviSyati ॥ 3-59-20 ॥
